The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Showcase was held on Monday 23 September 2024 and featured stalls from across the University showcasing the work in addressing global challenges.
The whole of university event was designed to shine a light on the progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. From world renowned research and game changing global initiatives, to everyday policy and practice changes right here on campus, this inaugural event brought together the very best and brightest minds at UNSW.
UNSW Sydney is ranked as a top 10 university in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. This result reflects our long-standing focus on driving positive societal impact through transformative education, innovative research and partnerships with communities around the world.
A stall representing the DIIU highlighted our Inclusive Research Guidelines. Doing Research Inclusively: Guidelines for Co-Producing Research with People with Disability sets out key benefits, principles and strategies that underpin the Disability Innovation Institute approach to co-producing research with people with disability. The content is drawn from a comprehensive review of the literature, the experience of leading inclusive researchers at UNSW, and Institutes community partner organisations of people with disability.
As a research approach, co-production is built on respect and acknowledgment of the life experience of the person with disability. In inclusive research, people with disability are involved not only as participants, but as co-researchers, partners and equal participants. A co-production approach creates a shared community of practice in which everyone has a role in knowledge creation. It works to address historical underrepresentation, prevent harms and inequality within the fields of academic research.
This directly contributes to SDG Goal 10, specifically addressing the following:
- Empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all irrespective of disability
- Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard
- Adopt policies, especially fiscal, wage and social protection policies, and progressively achieve greater equality
